Our take on Halloween Fighters
Reviewed by the LetsPlayFree editors ·
Halloween Fighters is a one-on-one arcade brawler that leans into its seasonal theme without losing sight of the fighting itself. You pick from 11 monsters, work through 12 haunted arenas and finish at one of three oversized bosses. The hand-drawn comic look and the slow-motion knockouts give each win a bit of theatre.
What keeps it from being a simple button-masher is the move set: ten directional punches and kicks, so holding forward, back, down or up changes what the same button does. Chaining those into combos, breaking an opponent’s guard and saving a glowing super for the right moment is where the depth sits. Three difficulty levels make it easy to start gently and move up once the pattern of attacks makes sense.
In practice, the first few fights are about learning which direction-plus-button combinations suit each monster, and this is where the game's depth shows. Players who stick with one favorite monster for a few arenas tend to improve faster than those who switch constantly, and the three difficulty levels let you raise the challenge once the basics feel natural. Sessions are short, so it fits easily between other games.
How to play Halloween Fighters
Move with the arrow keys or WASD. Press Z or J to punch and X or K to kick. Holding a direction while you attack changes the move: forward for a strong hit, back for a medium one, down for a low attack or sweep, and up for an uppercut or high kick. With no direction held you throw a light attack. On a phone or tablet, use the on-screen controls the game shows.
Tips for Halloween Fighters
- Start on the easiest difficulty and spend a few fights just learning what each direction plus a button does.
- Mix low and high attacks so the computer opponent cannot simply block one height.
- Hold your super for a moment when the opponent is stunned or has just had their guard broken.
What we liked and didn’t
Pros
- Directional attacks give the combat real variety
- 11 characters and 12 arenas give plenty to unlock and revisit
- Three difficulty levels suit beginners and veterans
Cons
- Works best with a keyboard, so touch play is less precise
- Short fights can feel repetitive after a long session
Best for: Players who like classic arcade fighters and want a seasonal one that still has some depth.
