Our take on Hot Barrel Cats
Reviewed by the LetsPlayFree editors ·
Hot Barrel Cats is tower defense with a cooling problem. Mildew monsters creep along a road toward your gate, and the only defenders are cats perched on the wall. Each shot heats the shooter, and once its timer is up the cat jams and goes quiet until it has cooled down.
So the game becomes a shuffling puzzle: pull the overheated cat off the wall, bring a fresh one up and pair identical cats to upgrade them into a higher tier. An upgraded cat comes back cool, which makes merging a repair as well as a power-up. You are never just waiting for a wave to end; there is always a cat that needs swapping.
A good round feels like juggling: some cats are cooling at the bottom while fresh ones fire from the wall and you look for pairs to merge. Beginners often wait too long to rotate a hot cat, so the early lesson is to swap before a jam, not after one. The cute theme hides a game that rewards steady, attentive play.
How to play Hot Barrel Cats
On desktop, drag cats with the mouse, or click one and then click the target spot. Esc pauses and M mutes. On mobile, drag with your finger or tap a cat and then tap the target. Cats on the wall shoot, so drag hot ones down to cool and drop a cat onto its twin to merge them.
Tips for Hot Barrel Cats
- Swap cats before they jam, not after, so your wall never goes silent.
- Merge as soon as you have a matching pair; the new cat starts cool.
- Keep a spare cat or two ready in the spawn zone.
