Hazard Pay

Our take on Hazard Pay

Reviewed by the LetsPlayFree editors ·

Hazard Pay is a trap-filled platformer set in the worst factory imaginable. Floors disappear, doors flee and spikes pop up where you land, so the safest-looking route is usually the dangerous one. Over 60 handmade shifts you earn pay that you spend on hats and trails.

Your choice of worker changes how you play. Cinder the salamander jumps off walls, Pip the crash-test dummy can jump a second time in mid-air and Rivet the robot hovers and reveals hidden traps. Choosing a character is almost choosing a strategy, which makes replaying levels worthwhile. Controls are standard platformer fare, with adjustable jump height and a fast restart key, ideal for trial and error.

Character choice makes the game replayable, because a room that is frustrating with one worker can be easy with another. Cosmetic hats and trails give the 60 shifts a light reward system. Quick restarts mean that failing is part of the fun, not a setback.

How to play Hazard Pay

Move with the arrow keys or A and D. Jump with Space, W, Up or Z, and hold the button to jump higher. Down or S drops through thin platforms, R restarts and Esc pauses. Cinder slides down walls and jumps off them, Pip jumps again in mid-air and Rivet hovers and shows hidden traps.

Tips for Hazard Pay

  • Try Rivet first if you want help spotting traps.
  • Restart quickly with R after a mistake.
  • Treat anything that looks safe with suspicion.
