Stellar Bastion is an endless survival shooter on a star-fortress flight deck. You are the last gunner, and swarms of bugs are coming for you. Aiming is handled for you, because the rifle auto-fires at the nearest bug, so every decision is about where you stand and when you move.

The pressure rises every 13 seconds as a new wave arrives, and every fifth wave brings a Hive King that speeds up the swarm. Defeated bugs can drop machine guns, shotguns and rocket launchers with limited ammunition, so you decide when to switch. Move by holding the mouse or a finger on the screen, or use WASD or arrows plus a combat roll. The game pauses automatically when you leave the tab, a thoughtful extra.

Because aiming is automatic, the whole game is about positioning and weapon choice. Moving in wide arcs, picking up better guns and using the combat roll in emergencies is a reliable strategy. The auto-pause when you leave the tab is a considerate detail.

How to play Stellar Bastion

Hold anywhere with the mouse or touch to walk toward the pointer; the gun fires automatically. On a keyboard, move with WASD or the arrows, press 1 to 4 to switch guns and use Shift for a combat roll. Use the on-screen buttons to pause, bank your score or see the mission brief.

Tips for Stellar Bastion

• Keep moving in wide circles so the swarm trails behind you.
• Save rocket launchers for the Hive King waves.
• Use the combat roll to escape when surrounded.
